Bierton Res Vs Haddenham United
26th March 2011
Haddenham United looked to bounce back from their semi-final disappointment of the previous week with a league win against struggling Bierton.
Starting brightly Haddenham had a lot of the possession but in truth the poor pitch made it impossible to play any sort of passing football so the play was more direct than usual.
With less than 5 minutes on the clock Haddenham opened the scoring. Scott Bryson delivered an excellent corner to the back post where leading goal scorer Adam Rowley headed in unchallenged much to their mutual delight.
The game was scrappy and increasingly ill tempered with Bierton determined to out muscle (and out shout) Haddenham in their last game of the season.
As has been the case at times in the past Haddenham failed to impose their level of play and instead adopted the long ball harem scarem tactics being employed by the opposition.
Not long before half time a mix up and poor clearance in the Haddenham penalty area fell to the slightly quieter of the two Bierton strikers who finished well through a crowd of players to make the scores level at half time.
The second half continued in much the same way with the only real change being the increase in volume and the nature of the threats (regarding going home in ambulances etc.) coming from a couple of the opposition.
The lowlights of the half Bierton were Haddenham having a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside by the linesman with the spring loaded arm and the home side going on to score two more goals and take the win 3 -1.
This was a completely forgettable game of ‘football’ with only two real positives to come out of the 90 minutes.
1. No one got hurt as none of the death threats were carried out.
2. Youngster Ashley Baldwin made an impressive debut. Coming on with 20 minutes to go in a pretty hostile atmosphere he showed composure and great technique and will definitely be one to look out for in the future.
With the Sheffield Jackman semi-final coming up next week it is to be hoped that the real Haddenham United team will show up on Saturday!
